Subtopic 1: detailed simulation and analysis of climate change

Leader: Xuejie Gao, Youcun Qi

Participating Units:

Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS;

Institute of Geographical Sciences and Resources, CAS;

Qinghai Tibet Plateau Institute, CAS;

Beijing Normal University;

Southern University of Science and Technology;

University of Gothenburg, Sweden

The research progresses are as follows:

1. Collect, sort out and analyze the observation and simulation data of the pan-third pole and southeast Asia;

1.1 Precipitation data of lattice plane;

1.2 Data of ground observation stations;

1.3 Satellite radar observation data;

1.4 Reanalysis data: European center for medium term weather forecasts (ECMWF) ERA5 et al;

1.5 Regional large-scale atmospheric circulation index data (ENSO, PDO), monsoon index, tropical cyclone track record, drought index data, etc.;

1.6 CMIP5 multi-mode simulation prediction data;

1.7 Construction of Bayesian multi-mode set average method and related programs and software.

2. Analysis and research on hydrological and climatic characteristics of the pan-third pole region.

2.1 Research on precipitation characteristics of the Qinghai Tibet plateau has been completed, including the monthly precipitation contribution, frequency of different type of rainfall as well as contribution.

3. Installation, debugging, simulation and test results of regional climate models WRF and RegCM4

3.1 WRF 3.7.1, with the horizontal resolution 9km times 9km, 60 layers vertically, driven by ERA5, the spectral approximation techniques were applied.

3.2 RegCM4, with the horizontal resolution 25km times 25km, 18 layers vertically. The CORDEX-EA region was used to determine the simulation scheme setting, update the model vegetation and surface emissivity data, etc. through testing, and conducted the long-term simulation test under the ERA-interim drive.
